DJ Commando Continues to make R&B the “most listened to” Genre

DJ Commando was born Troy Williams and grew up in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He started at a radio station called KOJC 89.7 FM back in 1982. While working at the station for 13 years, DJ Commando rocked the stage with acts like “Ice Cube, Too Short, Rob Base & DJ EZ Rock, Tony, Toni, Tone, and many more. Also, he traveled with the group “Majik Motion” and local friends doing shows. Commando’s name is known throughout the Iowa music scene where the Iconic DJ began marking his territory doing house parties, major Cedar Rapids events, and clubs. In 1990, “Commando” was signed to an independent label out of New York with the group “Soldiers N Command” that’s where the Dj name “Commando” was born.

During the years, he continues djing, spinning at events and making moves in Waterloo including clubs and radio. In 2002, he started at the station KBOL 100.1 FM in Waterloo, Iowa. This move catapulted his career and encouraged him to start networking more on social media. While doing this, he earned membership in to one of the most prestigious DJ Coalition – The Core Djs. Additionally, Commando got a shot on an episode of ‘Rap City’ and appeared on an internet radio station  called 107.3 VIP (www.1073vip.com).

DJ Commando was the Assistant Music Director at “Iced Out Radio” where he helped break independent and new artists and he could be seen djing at a nightclub called “The Last Level Lounge” in Waterloo Iowa. He had a show entitled “Bringing Tha Heat” which is on Monday thru Fridays 6pm til 10pm Central which has over 180,000 listeners a day. Currently, He’s doing major events, clubs and opening up for many artists such as Plies, T.I. Zapp, Tech Nine, Kid Ink, Scarface, Jon B and many more. Very versatile with the genres of music and doing mixshows.
DJ Commando continues to move forward and still has goals he wants to accomplish. He intends to make a big impact in the music industry. Working on a RNB show called “The Comfort Zone RnB Radio Show”, supporting the RNB movement, Mixshow Dj/Coordinator for KCEP/Power 88 in Las Vegas along with “The National R&B Music Society inc”, First Dime Bookings, Team Rockwell along with other DJ coalitions.
