International Group, Black Lion releases the deluxe EP, “Free Association” on Digital Music Platforms
The members of Black Lion were friends long before they became a collective. After some time polishing their debut release, they saw early success when their mixtape Black Lion Presents: The Prodigy and the Architect in 2015, earned them a Canadian Music Week Showcase. This growing collective of rising musical talent is led by Rich Lindo and JR ‘Heny’ Lindo, brothers who officially began collaborating musically in early 2012. Black Lion brings you their own take on what the genre should be. The result is a familiar yet unique and diverse dose of hip-hop, infused with several genres that are representative of Toronto’s culture and diversity.
Rich Lindo is the collective’s Music Producer; who is notable for his engaging remixes, including Sizzla’s Take Myself Away and Sade’s Soldier of Love, which earned viral acclaim and achieved over one million YouTube hits. Rich’s brother, Heny, is a gifted Emcee who represents the Greater Toronto Area and is one of the main artists featured on Black Lion’s releases.
In 2015, their debut mixtape Black Lion Presents: The Prodigy and the Architect were released to critical acclaim in the local press and even earned them a pair of Canadian Music Week showcases. The following year, Black Lion was the successful recipient of an Arts Council Grant in support of their future musical endeavors.
This autumn the collectives years of dedication to their art was highlighted by the release of their 7 song debut EP titled FREE ASSOCIATION. The group’s innovation continued with this release as, a creative twist, the EP was distributed as a stunning audio-visual production. Each of the EP’s seven songs was accompanied by a lyric video, that captured their message perfectly.
In addition to contributions from Rich and Heny, FREE ASSOCIATION includes notable Toronto natives who inspired their musical foundations. The list of collaborators includes Grammy-nominated production juggernaut Tone Mason and the soulful melodies of one of Toronto’s finest, R&B/Soul artist Ray Robinson. The collective’s sound is undeniably versatile and takes inspiration from its roots in their awareness of relevant current historical, and emerging global themes and trends, as well as an appreciation for the lighter moments in life.
Firm believers that music is one of life’s greatest gifts, Black Lion use their music to entertain and inspire listeners. They pride themselves on delivering a substantive message over gripping and soul-wrenching instrumentals.
