What a time to be alive! Rap history was solidified in the late 1990’s and early 2000’s with the budgets in hip hop and rap divisions at record labels expanding. The lifestyle was big, the budgets were big and the party was non stopping. Videos began to be shot in exotic locations and lavish mansions. Changing the backgrounds from the inner city streets to islands, yachts and boats. Please don’t let us forget the introduction of the video vixen that we still see present in hip hop and rap videos still to this day.
Below I’ve compiled a list of my top 5 favorite rap videos of the originial big budget, video vixen era. Why? The answer is because why not!! Anyone who grew up during this time would tell you that the atmosphere was just different. In the words of Mr. Pump It Up himself Joe Budden, “The temperature was different,” and indeed it was. Tis the season I celebrate big budget rap videos and video vixens. Enjoy!
Nelly – E.I.
