Newark native, Bishop The Overseer releases new single, “Runnin Back”
After almost a 3 year hiatus since his last album “The Story of Life My Life”, Bishop The Overseer returns with a long awaited single “Runnin Back”. This latest release is responsive to the current political issues being experienced in the United States and throughout the world.
The first verse explicitly discusses and dissects the issue concerning immigration. The second verse analyzes and intrusively opens the door for an honest conversation about addiction and suicide. Notwithstanding the seriousness of the topics being discussed, “Runnin Back” is an intimate love story about the challenges of migrating to a new country seeking life and liberty in the pursuit of happiness. It deals with addiction and how it affects the outcome of one’s life, and the constant tug-of-war between the two in order to maintain self-awareness.
Overall, this newly released Contemporary R&B/Hip-Hop Surround Sound recording features smooth vocals, mesmerizing melodic instrumentation with a powerful undertone of the present commentary of the political climate. The lyrics are elegantly garnished, carefully crafted, and thoughtful.
