Canadian Band, The Free Label release their debut single, “Nice” from the forthcoming album
The Free Label is 5-piece Pop/R&B band from Toronto, Canada. Led by lead vocalist Josh Daniel (charisma/guitar/sax), the group is held together by Daniel McLean (gospel chops/singing/rapping/drums), Mathew Fantini (low end/bass), Cole Mendez (keys), and Malik Mungo (guitar).
The single, “Nice” is an energetic Alt-R&B track and the followup single to our 2018 breakout hit “All Night” (140K+, 7.5K saves). The song follows a young man’s experience in millennial hookup culture and the trials and emotions that come with it. Nice was recorded in Dec 2018 with multi-platinum producer Gabe Gallucci (Shawn Mendez, Disney) and will be released on an LP in Sept 2019. The song will be promoted via an international tour, multiple remixes (CA & UK), and a summer 2019 promotional campaign.
The Free Label came together in the summer of 2017, though all members have had years of experience as individual artists and performers in Toronto. In addition, they all studied Music at a University/College level. The Free Label is an alumnus of Canada’s Music Incubator, were featured artists at Youth Day 2017 and 2017 Indie Week semi-finalists. In 2018, after winning the Mariposa Showcase, they performed multiple shows at Mariposa Folk Festival including the closing performance. They also performed in Toronto as part of the 2018 Canadian Music Week.
Following in the tradition of Earth Wind & Fire, The BeeGees, & Bruno Mars, The Free Label is equally known for their captivating stage presence as they are for the quality of their music, choreography, crowd engagement, and five smiling faces keep their audiences dancing all night.
The Free Label’s sound fuses the musicality of 70s funk, 80s pop, and 90s R&B with a modern sound that millennials easily vibe out to. They are heavily influenced by their Toronto contemporaries such as Daniel Caesar, The Weeknd, and Charlotte Day Wilson. However, they keep their ears open to the international sounds of Tom Misch, SZA, and Anderson Paak.
In April 2018, The Free Label released their first EP “This Some Kind of Love”. They are currently working on their first full-length LP “Title TBD” to be released Summer 2019. Hit the play button, you’ll find yourself singing the hook! It’s infectious, Try it!
