The international group, The Heatwave teams up with Veteran DJ,
Mr. Lexx and vocalist, Keida on Dancehall single, “Walk Out
Gyal”
London dancehall crew The Heatwave release their new single ‘Walk Out Gyal’ featuring Jamaican veteran dancehall deejay; Mr. Lexx and hotly-tipped vocalist Keida – just in time for Notting Hill Carnival.
‘Walk Out Gyal’ is inspired by bashment girls of the past, present, and future, a collision of pure 90s ragga attitude and raw UK bass frequencies. Speaking about the influences for the track, The Heatwave’s Gabriel explains:
“The riddim for Walk Out Gyal actually began life as a remix of Terror Danjah’s ‘Juicy Patty’. We’ve always been into grime and very aware of the influences it’s drawn from Jamaica and Dancehall. Things took a full circle, using Terror’s distinctive sounds and FX but rearranging everything into a minimal, bass-heavy dancehall pattern.
Over the past 14 years, The Heatwave’s DJ’s Gabriel and Benjamin D have been taking their London twist on the Jamaican sound system formula to dances, including their own roadblock event Hot Wuk, and festivals around the world. ‘Walk Out Gyal’ follows up their first two releases ‘Stopwatch’ ft. K More and ‘London City’ ft. Ding Dong, which was supported by BBC Radio 1’s MistaJam and Toddla T, BBC Radio 1Xtra’s David Rodigan and Seani B and Tim Westwood on CapitaL Xtra. In Jamaica, the tracks got heavy plays from ZJ Chrome, ZJ Sparks, and Hottarice.
On Carnival Weekend, Saturday 26th August, The Heatwave take their renowned “Hot Wuk” dance to The Forum in Kentish Town. Tickets are available to buy here .
